Description of the Destination Marketing Corporation of Otsego County, Inc (DMC).
DMC is a not-for-profit corporation organized under the laws of the State of New York. DMC actively promotes and markets Otsego County for the purpose of encouraging overnight visitation, thus contributing to the economic impact of tourism in our communities through the generation of occupancy tax revenues.
DMC participates and collaborates with local, regional and state-wide organizations in support of the tourism industry and promotion of Otsego County, NY.
DMC, through an agreement with the Otsego County, uses a portion of the net revenue of the Otsego County Occupancy Tax as well as Private Sector funds, and I Love New York Matching Funds for operational and promotional activities. DMC is managed by an Executive Director who reports to a Board of Directors. The Executive Director has direct supervisory responsibility over permanent, part time, and seasonal employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Executive Director is employed by and responsible to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director manages the day-to-day affairs of DMC and supervises all staff.
Description of the Position
Performs the full range of duties entailed in managing day-to-day affairs of DMC including planning, programming, budgeting and scheduling and staff evaluations.
Administers contracts with Otsego County for distribution of Otsego County Occupancy Tax, Partner Agreements, and with the State of New York for the ILNY Matching Funds program.
Coordinates marketing and promotion activities, public relations and manages contracts with DMC’s selected agency of record.
Actively participates in regional initiatives and activities including New York State Tourism Program, Central New York Vacation Region, and Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council among others.
Provides reports to and coordinates activities with the DMC’s Board of Directors and officers, Partners, local and state government officials, and the media.
Must enjoy selling and meeting new people. Position will require working some weekends, nights, and holidays. Must be able to travel regionally and nationally when required. Must be able to handle multiple details and programs at the same time and maintain confidential information. Good computer skills are also necessary (including Microsoft Office).
Must be able to follow and enforce all policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook (includes Federal and State employment laws).
Performs other duties as required by DMC’s Board of Directors and officers.
Prefer an individual with prior experience in a destination marketing organization. Would prefer, but not require, someone with experience in upstate New York.
